Forgery under UAE law
Forgery concerns an alteration of truth in an instrument through a legally recognised method, with intent to use it as genuine and a capacity to cause harm. The type of document and issuing authority affect legal classification.
A typographical mistake or version conflict is not automatically forgery. Intent, method, authority to sign and potential effect require contextual examination.
Official, private and electronic records
A passport, identity card or public certificate is not assessed in the same way as a private contract or letter. Translations, powers of attorney and company seals should be traced to their issuer and authorised signatory.
UAE evidence and electronic-transactions laws recognise electronic records and signatures. Metadata, system logs, signature certificates and file provenance may be central to authenticity.
Knowing use
A person who did not create the item may still face an allegation of knowingly using it. The time knowledge arose, receipt, purpose of submission and conduct after notification can matter.
Receipt from a colleague or intermediary does not end the inquiry. Communications, instructions, versions and internal approval processes should be preserved in full.

Expert examination and preservation
Paper examination may address handwriting, ink, print, seals and added material. Digital analysis may address hashes, creation time, edit history, servers and devices. A screenshot may not replace the native file.
Do not mark the original or resave the electronic file. Document the chain of custody so its location and handlers remain traceable.
Investigation and related effects
Accurate accounts should distinguish personal observation from hearsay. Certified translation and an interpreter may reduce misunderstanding. Contacting witnesses or deleting messages after learning of a complaint can create further issues.
For foreign nationals, criminal proceedings may have separate residence or professional consequences. They are not identical in every case and require individual review.
Initial checklist
Preserve the original, every version, transmission email, issuer data, reliable signature samples and a chronology. Avoid categorical claims before technical review.
The result depends on intent, technical evidence, document type and UAE judicial assessment. This is general information.
